Abstract
Petrović, S. (1972): Investigation of translocations by dial-lei cross of wheat varieties included in the European aneuploid programme. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 161-169.
The hexaploid wheat varieties included in the diallel cross were as follows: Bersee, Bezostaja-1, Cappelle-Desprez, Chinese Spring, Desprez-80, Panonija, Poros and Vilmarin-27. An investigation of translocations was made during meiosis in the Fi plants and it was shown that, except for the Chinese Spring variety, the chromosome structure of all varieties differ from the primitive chromosome structure by one or two interchanges.

Abstract
Slavnić, Ž. and Šiljak, Sonja (1971): Morphological variability of the first leaf of seedlings (Carpinus betulus L.). - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 171-181.
The morphological variability of the first leaf of seedlings of the species Carpinus betulus L. has been studied in detail.
In populations growing in the different places (dry-moist; illuminated-shady) both characters are evidently genetically not in correlation but they probably represent adaptable characters.

Popović, Sofija and Popović, A. (1972): Investigation of quality inheritance in some wheat hybrids.- Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 183-192.
The quality of Fi, Fj and Bi hybrids was investigated by a sedimentation test (Zeleny method). It was shown that parental varieties influence the quality of hybrids to a high degree. The highest values are obtained in the cross Bezostaja 1 x Magdalena. The variety Bezostaja 1 (Awnless 1) in backcross combinations influences the quality to a high degree.

Abstract
Tucović, A. and Stilinović, S. (1972): Viviparousness in Pinus heldreichii Christ. Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 193—200.
Within a group of Pinus heldreichii Christ, in Belgrade two trees were found to have distinctive viviparous characteristics. The observed trees did not exhibit phenotypic differences from typical ones, with the exception of the continuous growth of a part of seed still in the cones attached to the mother tree. The viviparous seedlings, however, showed a number of abnormal properties. Presumably, this phenomenon is controlled by genetic factors.

Data about a cytogenetical analysis of F1 reciprocal intergeneric hybrids between Aegilops cylindrica (2n = 28) and Bezostaja 1 (Triticum vulgare, 2n=42) are presented. All analysed F1 plants of both hybrid combinations were pentaploids, with 35 chromosomes. The frequencies of univalents, bivalents, trivalents and quadrivalents at metaphase I, lagging chromosomes at anaphase I and anaphase II and the number of micronuclei in tetrads were different in both hybrids, according to which species was used as the female parent.

Abstract
Krivic, Tilka (1971): Effect of gamma irradiation on inbred lines of flint corn. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 209-216.
From ecotypes of flint corn we selected many inbred lines of which L-III was a very good combination. The purpose of our investigation was to determine with which doses of gamma irradiation it may be possible to induce mutants with the most useful characteristics. We irradiated seeds with doses from 2000 r to 25000 r. The mutants with the best characteristics were obtained with doses of 10000 >r, 15000 r and 17000 r. Selection of the best mutants was started in M2 gen. and prolonged till M7 gen. with the intention of obtaining homozygous mutants with the most useful characteristics, namely: strong stalk, taller plants, different vegetation period, longer ears, increased number of rows, larger kernels, intense yellow endosperm and plants resistant to some of the most wide spread diseases.

Abstract
Dokic, P. (1972): The effect of heterosis and triploydy in f1 hybrids of sugar beet varieties. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 217-228.
The possibility of dividing the effects of heterosis and triploidy in intervarietial triploid hybrids of sugar beet is presented.
These effects were estimated in three hybrid combinations for yield and root dimensions. Results of the investigation have shown that heterosis of the characters studied was not manifested in any combination. However in the combination cms (2n) x GW 761 (4n) the effect of triploidy for all mentioned characters was significant or highly significant.

Abstract
Tucović, A., Marković, Lj. and Valčić, V. (1972): Preliminary results of early provenance tests of the walnut (Juglans regia L.) in Yugoslavia. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 229-244.
In the present paper the first information is given about some important characteristics of walnut trees. A comparative analysis has been made of early provenance tests of geographically distant walnut populations in Yugoslavia.
The applied method seems to be appropriate for the identification of above-average material which will be used as planting stock in the establishment of fast-growing walnut plantations.

Abstract
Ali, A.M.M. (1972): Schizosaccharomyces ponibe argirii-ne mutants lacking ornithine transcarbamylase. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 245-249.
This investigation has been carried out as an attempt to determine the lacking enzyme in the citrulline-requiring mutants of Schizosaccharomyces pombe, which were considered to be similar to arg-2 of N. crassa (Ali, 1970). The citrulline-requiring mutant, D46, and the wild-type strain, 972, were used.
The carbamyl phosphokinase (CPK) enzyme assay did not show any difference in the crude extracts of the two strains.
The accumulation studies of the citrullilne-requiring mutant, D46, extract showed accumulation of ornithine, indicating that it lacks ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC). The wild-type strain, 972, showed accumulation of citrulline, indicating that CPK was deficient as a result of repression caused by the excess of arginine, some of which was converted in the reverse to citrulline.

Attempts were made to determine the mechanism of mutation to prototrophs of Schizosaccharomyces pombe a methionine-requiring auxotroph (D476, met-4) using nitrous acid as the mutagen.
The results obtained were consistent with those obtained by W i t k i n and T h e i 1 (1960) in UV-induced Escherichia coli mutants. The origins of the prototrophs obtained from different post nitrous acid treatments are discussed.

Abstract
Dolinar, Zlata (1972): Life span and infant mortality in two register offices of Dolenjska. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 261-265.
The life span in two populations was estimated from the year 1880 up to and including 1969. The life span through the decades lengthened from 31 to above 60 years in the last decade. At the same time infant mortality decreased from about 25 to less than 5 per cent in the same period. Infectious diseases are the main factors influencing the results of both characteristics.

Abstract
Ločniškar, F. (1972): Genetics and animal breeding. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 267-273.
Four groups of genetic information are briefly discussed: inheritance of qualitative characters caused by few genes: investigations on karyotypes; genetics of gametes, and quantitative genetics based on postulates of population genetics. The use of quantitative genetics is demonstrated with an example (pig breeding).

The pattern of NG-induced reversion of histidine amber (UAG) and UGA mutants has been studied. The results show that the strain harbouring a UAG nonsense mutation reverts predominantly by the activation of the specific UAG suppressor, in contrast to the strain carrying a UGA mutatjon which reverts to histidine autonomy mainly by true, intracistronic type of reversion. Furthermore, the results obtained with strains isogenit except for their excision repair ability indicate that, at least in the case of the mutants used in this study, excision repair does not play any role Sn NG-i<nduced mutagenesis.

Abstract
Budnik, Myriam and Brncic, D. (1972): The effects of intra-specific and interspecific larval competition on viability, developmental rate and chromosomal polymorphism in Drosophila pavani. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 281-295.
Egg-to-adult viability and developmental rate of two neotropical species of Drosophila (D. pavani and D. gaucha) was investigated when they were grown separately or in competitive conditions, using the different densities of individuals. In experiments in which D. pavani compete with D. gaucha it was observed that at similar densities, the total number of emerging individuals is greater when both species are bred together than when they are separated. The cytogenetic analysis of D. pavani larvae showed an influence of larval density and of interspecific competition on Ihe frequencies of heterokaryotypes in the fourth chromosomes of this species.

Abstract
Ribarac-Stepić, N., Kanazir, D. T. and Ševaljević, Lj. (1972): Investigations of the physico-chemical properties of serum albumins from the progeny o/ chickenes treated with highly polymerized homologous DNA during embryo genesis. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 297-303.
Some physico-chemical properties of the albumins of normal chickenes and the progeny of chickenes which have been treated during embryogenesis with 12 μg and 80 μg of highly-polymerized deoxyribonucleic acid (HP DNA) have been studied. Determination of the percentage of albumin that was not denatured by 6 M urea, and measurement of the viscosity have indicated changes in the sensitivity to 6 M urea of albumin molecules from progeny of DNA-treated animals, implying possible changes in the chemical composition of the proteins.

Abstract
Muntanjola-Cvetković, M. and Nešković, M. (1972): A Cladosarum-like mutant of Aspergillus aureolatus that is temperature-sensitive and osmotic remedial. - Genetika, Vol. 4, No. 2, 305-312.
The hypothesis advanced in an earlier study that the leaky condition or temperature-dependent behaviour of the Cladosarum-like mutant 22B of A. aureolatus could be remediated not only by increasing the carbohydrate concentration of the nutrient medium as observed in previous experiments, but by providing osmotic support with other compounds too, has been verified. The compounds used were KC1, NaCl, glycerol, ethylene glycol, as well as a number of carbohydrates. The absolute levels of the effects obtained varied with the nature of the solutes and their concentrations, but the results confirmed that conidium differentiation of the mutant studied here, which is defective at temperatures above 15°C, can be phenotypically restored by increasing the osmolarity of the nutrient medium.
