Pejkić, B. (1973): Cytogenetical properties of Pozegaca plums with single and double flowers.- Genetika, Vol. 5, No. 1, 1-11.

The Požegača plum tree with double flowers manifested certain cytogenetical and cytochemical differences, from that with single flowers. Pozegaca with double flowers showed especially pronounced deviations from the normal which were manifested by abnormal conjugation, the retention of chromosomes, pollen germination and a considerably lower histone content, compared with Požegača trees with single flowers.

Popović, A., Zečević, Lj., Kuburović, M. Popović, S. (1973): Qualitative and quantitative properties of some wheat mutants variety Fiorello. - Genetaka, Vol. 5, No. 1, 13-19.

Data are presented about the sedimentation values for 37 Ms sublines of the wheat variety Fiorello, selected from material irradiated by different doses of gamma-rays. Among these lines, 17 sublines had greater sedimentation values than non-irradiated control plants, and in 17 other sublines the corresponding values were lower. A great variability was noticed in the height and yield of plants, as well as in some other characteristics.

The  significance  of  the  use  of  ionizing  radiation  in  the induction  of  genetic variability  and   the   selection  of  mutants was pointed out, especially with the regard to the increase of the content and the improvement of the quality of protein.

Abstract

Jovanović, C., Konstantinov, K. (1973): Effects of different mutagenic agents on the frequency of chromosomal aberrations in Ms-progeny of wheat. - Genetika, Vol. 5, No. 1, 21-30.

The effects of El, EMS, gamma irradiation and fast neutrons on the appearance of chromosomal aberrations in vulgare wheat (Ms-generation) were investigated. The number of cells with chromosomal aberrations in the control samples was higher than is normally characteristic for vulgare wheat. There was no detectable effect of El, EMS and gamma irradiation on the chromosomes in Ms-progeny of chemically treated or gamma irradiated seeds. Fast neutrons induced chromosomal aberrations detectable in the Ms-generation.

There is no evidence that the changed content of protein in the seeds depends on the induced chromosomal aberrations.

GENETIC CONTROL OF THE QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION OF SEED PROTEINS IN MUTANTS AND RECOMBINANTS OF PISUM SATIVUM

Abstract

Müller, H. P. (1973): Genetic control of the quantitative composition of seed proteins in mutants and recombinants of Pisum sativum - Genetika, Vol. 5, No. 1, 51-58.

The total content of protein and the protein fractions albumin and globulin were analysed quantitavely in some mutants and recombinants of Pisum sativum in order to study the distribution of the main protein fractions within the seeds of different genotypes. It could be shown that in all genotypes analysed 34-60% of the total protein consists of albumin and globulin, the latter being the major fraction. The globulin/albumin ratio as an index for evaluating the relative amounts of both fractions in total soluble protein reveals that in most mutants and recombinants the albumin fraction is decreased and the globulin fraction is increased as compared with the initial line. Comparing the globulin-albumin situation in the recombinants with their respective parents it can be seen that there exist some alterations in the globulin/albumin ratio in favor of the albumins. The data presented are discussed in connection with the improvement of seed proteins in peas.

Abstract

Savković, N., Pečevski, J. and Malčić, K. (1973): Persistence of chromosomal translocation induced in mouse spermatogonia by whole-body irradiation and local irradiation of testes.- Genetika, Vol. 5, No. 1, 73-77.

The present study is an analysis of chromosome translocations produced in male mice by whole-body or local irradiation with 500 R X-rays. The rate of induction of reciprocal trans-locations in spermatogonial stages was determined by cytological examination of descendant spermatocytes at different times, namely 30, 60, 90 and 120 days after irradiation.

Our results show conclusively that many translocations induced in mouse spermatogonia are not eliminated 120 days after 500 R. The percentage of translocation configurations was significantly greater after whole-body than after local irradiation after 60, 90 and 120 days the general shape of curves being similar.

Abstract

Taskovski, M., Vaskov, B., Efremov. G. and Tokovski, T. (1973): On the relationship between hemoglobin and transfer-rin phenotypes and the yield and quality of wool in sheep.- Genetika, Vol. 5, No. 1, 79-88.

The relationship between hemoglobin and transferrin phenotypes and the yield and quality of wool has been studied in a population of Sharplanina crossbreed and a population of merino de L'est sheep between 1966 and 1969. In this study 893 Sharplanina crossbreed of which 375 were hogs, 407 were ewes and 111 were rams, and 111 merino de L'est sheep (86 ewes and 25 rams) were included. The production characters were greasy fleece weight, staple length, elasticity of fibre, strength of fibre and softness of fibre.

The results of this study showed no association between hemoglobin type and the yield and quality of wool in Sharplanina crossbreed. In merino de L'est sheep, however, an association of hemoglobin type with strength of fibre was found. Regarding transferrin polymorphism significant associations between transferirrin type and the yield of wool, elasticity of fibre and softness of fibre in Sharplanina crossbreed but not in the merino de L'est breed of sheep was found. Some of the observed associations are ascribed to chance.

Abstract

Pavličić Jelena (1973): Contribution to the study of the evolutionary relationship of domestic maize flint types from some hilly areas. - Genetika, Vol. 5, No. 1, 95-108.

Our investigation on the evolutionary relationship and genetical divergence among domestic maize flint types from hilly areas showed the different relationships between the types and their origin.

As an indicator of their genetical divergence we have taken the degree of heterosis expression in the F1 generation. Heterosis was mostly expressed in the following characters: height of plant, tassel branches, leaf number, 100 kernel weight and kernel length.

The Montenegrin flints and Macedonian flints were genetically most divergent. The Macedonian flints were also dissimilar to the Mediteranean flints. Most related were the Kosmet flinty dents and Montenegrin flints.

Abstract

Pešev, N., Krstić, N. (1973): Combining ability of some new domestic inbred lines of maize. - Genetika, Vol. 5, No. 1, 109-115.

The use of 6 genetically different lines as testers was found to give significant data about the general combining ability of 56 new domestic inbred lines of maize.

The investigated inbred lines were divided into 3 groups according to their general combining ability, using the performance index. A high general combining ability was shown by 13 lines, a middle ability by 16 lines and a low ability by 27 inbred lines (48,6%).

The inbred lines with a high general combining ability, cited in this work, can be used for the development of hybrids with an intensive heterosis effect.
